If metal touches metal, it will quite natural cause physical ramifications: noise, vibrations, or abrasion! To prevent this happening, the metal part, e.g., a sprocket, will be furnished with a tailor-made rubber layer. This ligature of metal and rubber, that is to say a rubber-metal composite, is used for sealing or suspension purposes to isolate vibration, to absorb shock or to repress noise caused by the inherent structure.
